UK Electric Vehicles Delegation In Kolkata Puts The Spotlight On Adoption Of Clean Mobility

The British Deputy High Commission and Connected Places Catapult have put the spotlight on adoption of clean mobility with the UK electric vehicles delegation to Kolkata. This delegation represents some of the UK’s most innovative SMEs, working in fleet telematics, battery energy storage systems (BESS), AI, IoT-based cybersecurity, and more — all critical components in shaping the future of electric mobility.
As a part of the Unlocking the Value Chain of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Micromobility project facilitated by Connected Places Catapult and supported by Global Business Inroads (GBI) in association with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I), British Deputy High Commission hosted a cohort of six UK SMEs from the UK that are working on cutting edge technologies in Electric Vehicles including modular decentralized generators, BESS to solve grid constraints, AI, IoT, telematics and much more.
The objective of this project is to support bilateral trade and drive investment between the UK and India, with an aim to facilitate long-term collaborative partnerships between Indian and UK stakeholders in the 2 and 3-wheeler EV market.
Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India said: “The UK and West Bengal share a vision for a sustainable future, and this EV delegation from the UK, marks a major step in advancing EV innovation and forging exciting new partnerships. By working together, we can unlock new opportunities, drive investment, and shift the gear to accelerate the adoption of clean mobility solutions that benefit the people of both our nations.”
Each of the six UK SMEs showcased their core technology at a session in the British Club on March 11. This initiative creates a valuable platform for UK businesses to explore opportunities, forge long-term partnerships in India, and accelerate their global expansion. We anticipate this visit will drive investment, create new jobs, and strengthen the EV ecosystem, benefiting both our economies.
Elena Williams, Director, Government and Global Engagement, Connected Places Catapult said: “We are delighted to bring this delegation of UK businesses to Kolkata and are grateful for the engagement we have received over the past two years, culminating in this visit. The bilateral exchange of ideas in EV and micromobility has been invaluable, and we appreciate the collaboration and look forward to the continued development of partnerships. Our thanks also extend to the British Deputy High Commission and our local partners for their support.”
